“In knitting, there are ancient possibilities; the earth is enriched with the dust of the millions of knitters who have held wool and needles since the beginning of sheep.”  Elizabeth Zimmermann

Founded in 1987, the Handknitters Guild of South Australia Inc is an association of artisans who provide education for people learning and mastering the craft of knitting, represent the interests of knitting within the general community, encourage high standards in knitting and carry out charitable works.

We are proud to have as our Patron, knitter and former Labor Senator, Dr Rosemary Crowley. Many thanks to our previous Patron, Diana Laidlaw, knitter, Liberal member and Minister in the State Liberal Government.

“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.”  Picasso

Neural Knitworks is a collaborative art-science project about mind and brain health. We invite you to create textile neurons that can be joined together with others to weave soft sculptural representations of the brain.
We are looking for contributions for South Australian display. Please send by September 11th to

HELP!! Hi, I am knitting a throw rug that is almost finished. I haven’t knitted for 30yrs and am not confident about sewing it together. I also need to have it completed 18th August as I am taking it overseas as a gift for my son-in-law. I live in Mitcham. Is there anyone in the Adelaide knitting world that can help me sew it together by then? Also I do expect to pay for the service, I’m not looking for a volunteer! Love & best wishes, Desperado
